After being absent from the WWdN weeklies for most of the semester, last week I placed in the money. This week I didn’t make it home in time to play in the main tourney, but I am in time to play the second chance. My poker karma has been taking a beating the past few weeks, I would catch trips on the flop only to have another player make a loose call and make their flush on the river. The long and short of it is I lost a lot of races I should have won to people that shouldn’t have called, but that’s poker. So I’m back on my horse again and hopefully I can make some money to buy extra Christmas presents.
It’s now about 30 min till the cards hit the air and I’m going to make some tea and chill. See you in a bit.
9:28 We’ve been given our seats, our tables are a little thin to account for late registrations. Sitting at my table is ELKabong, 65 pony boy, Guinness (who I knocked out last week when his trip 3s ran up against my trip jacks), speedy V, and me.
9:36 Six minutes in and we’ve already lost one. ZeemJr went all in with the nines and got put out by Guinness when he caught on his aces and jacks.
9:45 When ZeemJr went out, registration closed and the tables were consolidated. Curently I’m sitting with Up4Poker, surflexus, strath2.0, mike, YRJ42, sloshr, and 65 pony boy. I’ve seen most of these people around, but I’ve only really ever played against Up4Poker. As I recall I placed second to him in the early days of the WWdN tournaments. He’s pretty good, patient, cagey, and he’s sitting two places in front of me. Better in front then behind.
9:48 Wil Wheaton just doubled up when ISS Spock ran his pair o’ Jacks into Wil’s set of Aces. Wil is now in better position after having 2/3 of his stack stolen in early tournament play.
10:02 Wil’s been getting lucky with the Aces tonight, 2 of the 3 last hands he was dealt aces, unfortunately he couldn’t mange a big pay out from them and is just about even for the tournament.
10:09 Just played an interesting hand with Up4Poker and Mike, there were 2 diamonds on the flop, but I made top pair with my queens, there were some low bids and I checked and called, the turn was another diamond, and there was another low bet I called with the odds, and when the river came with the fourth diamond I figured I was done, even though it gave me two pair. Alas, Up4Poker only had 7s and Mike didn’t have a hand. So I took down $1,000.
10:15 I just knocked out two when my Ace-Queen in diamonds caught a queen on the turn and ace on the river to knock out ELKabong and Mike.
10:21 I kinda hate it when I donk someone out of the tourney. I raised early with pocket 8s, was called by a short stack, and the BB (change1OO) raised all in. I thought about it for amoment, considered that I’ld been aggressively dominating the table and thought it might be a push back. The all in bet was about half my stack, and if he had two overcards it would be a race that slightly favored him. I called, the small stack folded, and the BB turned over his pocket 10s nicely dominating me. Unfortunately for him I hit trip 8s on the flop and he never caught up.
10:30 I’ve been on a run for the last bunch of hands, I caught trip 5’s vs. Two pair to put mookie99 out, then a couple hands after that I caught aces, and the table folded to my early bet. Finally I caught pocket 4s, and called hacker59’s $300 raise preflop. The flop came Ac-Jh-4c giving me another set. I slow play my check and hacker bets 500. I raise him all in, and he calls showing Ad-Kh giving him a pair of aces. The turn is the 10d and the river is Qh giving hacker the straight and finally slowing me down.
10:43 After a 5 minute break and a round of hands, we are nearing the final table. Wil Wheaton knocked out ISS Spock when Spock’s A-7 off got dominated by Wil’s AQ.
10:46 After being short stacked for most of the last few hands Guinness is knocked out in 10th.
10:48 Hacker59 is out in 9th when his pocket queens run into sloshr’s aces.
10:52 John1984 is out in 8th, the had the best hand going into the flop with sixes, but 65 pony boy made a set of 4s on the flop and John never caught up.
10:55 Wil just doubled up through 65 pony boy, and Up4Poker is all in with KJ off which he connects with the king on the turn to double up through sloshr.
10:58 Up4Poker just doubled up through me. He had 5s going into the flop and my BB hand was A7. The flop came 4-7-6 rainbow and I raised him all in. He called on the draw, and then called the 8 that came on the turn. I should know better than to let the luckbox draw. Although it did him little good as he was just knocked out in 7th when sloshr made his flush on the turn. And as I write this crowdedHouse was put out by CawtBluffin’s fullhouse. There are now 5 players left, and the top 3 get paid. Sloshr has the major chip lead, then 65 pony boy, myself, Wil and CawtBluffin.
11:04 Wil doubles up through pony boy with a set of 5s.
11:11 CawtBluffin is out in 5th, I put him all in with 7s, he had Ace Jack, he caught the ace on the flop, but I made the set on the river.
11:14 65 pony boy just doubled up through the monster stack of sloshr. the table is about even, Wil, pony and I with mid to hi thousands and sloshr at about 17,000. Wil just took a chunk out of pony’s stack placing him solidly in second.
11:16 So Wil has this hand he calls The Wheaton, it’s a 9 and a 3. He told the table he always folds that hand. When asked if he was supersticious he said, “no it’s because it’s a shitty hand.” A couple hands later he raised me while I was in the BB, when I folded he showed The Wheaton.
11:21 While I was writing the last update, sloshr put 65 pony boy out in 4th, thereby putting me in the money for the second week. A few hands later, I got into a grudge match with sloshr when I had an under pair to the board. I played poorly on the turn and donked off most of my chips. Eventually I ended up desperately all in with AJ off and sloshr called with AQ. I never caught up and got put out in third.
11:28 Wil and sloshr are waiting for support so they can chop the winnings for first and second place. Wil is in second with just over 9,000 and sloshr has just less than 30,000. I for one am pulling for Wil, this is the closest he’s gotten to winning one of his own tourneys, and even though he’s an underdog I think he’s fully capable of coming back.
11:42 And we’re back. Sloshr and Wil have agreed to chop the winings, they each receive $104 and now it’s all for the honor.
11:46 After much back and forth, Wil stole a bunch of chips from sloshr by unleashing The Wheaton. The stacks are much closer now, slosr has 23,175 and wil has 15,875
11:50 Here we go Wil goes all in with Jacks against sloshrs queens. The flop comes 5s-4c-Ac, the turn is the 9 of hearts, and the river is the King of hearts. Wil is out in second and sloshr wins the WWdN: West Coast / Second Chance Funtimes. Good job to all those who played and have a great week.
